The experience introduces children to the “good germs” that live inside our bodies through a playful, multisensory journey from ingestion to digestion and defecation.

Designed for 12 children between the ages of 6 and 12, the installation features a colorful wall with a simplified human digestive-tract diorama and shelves displaying interactive sensory objects. Questions and surprising facts are placed throughout the diagram to challenge the idea that all germs are harmful and explain how microorganisms living inside and outside our bodies are essential to our health.

Designed for 12 children between the ages of 6 and 12, the installation features a colorful wall with a simplified human digestive-tract diorama and shelves displaying interactive sensory objects. Interaction between the space and the kids, they instantly drew into the space and started to play with the little germs. All the kids got really excited about the game and how good germs are important for us to digest food and lead a healthy lifestyle.
Children are invited to build a more personal connection with the microbiome by playing a game in which a bacterium, virus, or yeast becomes their playing piece. Additional sensory elements include a five-pound weight representing the approximate mass of microorganisms in an adult body, along with kombucha that children can smell and taste as an example of beneficial microbes.
